The three-day festival will be held from Apr 3-5 at the Nong Harn Public Park, overlooking Karon Beach, and is expected to attract both domestic and international visitors.
Organised under a concept blending local culture with creative tourism, the event will showcase a wide range of kites, including traditional Thai designs from across the country as well as large-scale and international kites. Organisers say the displays will transform the skies above Karon into a vibrant spectacle reflecting Thailand’s cultural identity.
PPAO President Rewat Areerob said the festival is intended to both preserve traditional knowledge and stimulate the local economy.
“The PPAO intends to make the Phuket Kite Festival 2026 another important festival for the province, bringing the charm of Thai and international kites to create a colourful spectacle in the skies above Phuket’s beaches, while simultaneously promoting tourism and the local economy,” he said.
“We hope that this event will impress tourists and help establish Phuket as a key destination for creative festivals in Thailand in the future.”
The festival programme will include large and decorative kite displays, exhibitions of traditional kites, and hands-on activities for young people to learn about kite-making. Visitors will also be able to take part in workshops such as kite painting and craft-making using recycled materials.
A craft coffee zone and stalls selling local products and community goods will also be featured, alongside live entertainment throughout the event. Performances are scheduled from popular Thai acts including Musketeers, 200G-ANIC, LAZYLOXY and ETC..
Officials say the event forms part of wider efforts to highlight Phuket’s tourism potential by combining its natural attractions with cultural and creative activities, particularly during the high season.
Residents and visitors are invited to attend the festival and experience the display of colourful kites over Karon Beach, with organisers hopeful the event will become a permanent fixture on the island’s events calendar.
