Kathu police were alerted to the killing last night at 8.40pm.

Investigators and rescue workers reported to the scene, near the entrance to a migrant worker's camp on a gravel road near a popular golf course in Kathu's Moo 5, where they found a lifeless body lying in a puddle of blood in the middle of the road.

Police noted stab wounds on the man's stomach and rear side of the man's left shoulder.

A trail of blood led police to a small hut 20 metres away, where they met a Thai man who was named as Anun Chuaiupakan, 72, who lived in the hut.

Inside the hut, investigators found the bloody kitchen knife believed to have been used in the stabbing, and collected it as evidence.

Anun confessed to police that he stabbed the man dead on the road outside, who was named as Ta, a 49-year-old migrant worker from Myanmar.

Anun reported that an altercation happened at about 8pm, after the Myanmar national and his Thai wife*, who was not named, requested to come and stay at the old man's hut, citing a fight of jealous rage.

Anun reported that when he intervened in the fight, the Myanmar man grabbed the kitchen knife but Anun managed to wrestle it away from him and it was the Myanmar man who got stabbed instead.

Police are seeking to question the Thai woman, who reportedly fled the scene after the incident.
