Karon thief busted with meth, claims he needed money for baby’s milk

Karon police today (March 14) revealed a robbery suspect they had arrested with drugs on his person yesterday.

Named as Mr Jarun“Gai” Junprathum, 30, of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Phraphrom district, the suspect was nabbed in front of house number 42/4 in Moo 6 village in Chalong with possession of 3 grams of Crystal Meth (Ya Ice) and meth smoking paraphanelia.

Also seized from his person at the time of arrest were a full-face black motorcycle helmet, three Buddhist amulets, a black carry bag and a blue 110 CC Honda Wave motorbike with Phuket plates.

Other than this, police seized more than 23 items from the suspect’s Phuket house, including five mobile phones, 10 amulets, another Honda Wave motorbike with Phuket plates, parts of a PCX 1 motorbike, two wrist watches and three silver necklaces, among them.

Police said that on March 8, they were informed by a Ms Colores Turnberg (name transcribed from Thai report), 52, an Irish national who reported that someone had broken into her accommodations at the Kata Noi Resort and stolen many items.

Then, on March 9, police were alerted by a Mr Boonsong Jaiphormueang, 34, that someone had broken his car parked in front of his home, and stolen some items.

Diligent police work, on the ground and through studying CCTV footage of the hotel and escape routes, led police to their suspect, who was tracked down to the house in Chalong.

As the suspect was mounting the blue Honda Wave motorbike, police confronted him and discovered the drugs inside his helmet, and proceeded to search the house, where they found all the other items.

In the interrogation room, police learned that the suspect had robbed at least two other hotels in Karon, which were not named.

Jarun told the police he committed the robberies to get money to send home to his mother-in-law in Nakhon Si Thammarat.to buy milk for his kid.

In any case, Jarun was charged with possession of a schedule 1 drug with intent to sell, as well as committing robbery at night with a vehicle for convenience, or for the purpose of evading capture.

He is being held and processed at Karon Police Station.
