Kamala Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang explained that the campaign was developed in response to a directive from higher authorities to enhance road safety.
Recognising the influence of online media, the police decided to leverage trending TikTok content to reach a broad audience, he said.
The campaign features short, engaging videos created by the station’s traffic officers, which have successfully resonated with viewers and sparked conversations about the importance of helmet use.
“We’ve seen a positive response,” said Pol Col Thongkliang. “More people are now paying attention to wearing helmets and are encouraging their families and friends to do the same. This is crucial for preventing accidents and the heartache that comes with them.”
Kamala Police Deputy Chief Pol Lt Col Wutthiwat Liangbunjinda highlighted that the campaign specifically targets high-risk areas, such as the Khuan Yak curve on Kamala Hill, where accidents frequently occur.
By using TikTok ‒ a platform with global reach ‒ the police hope to not only raise awareness among locals but also inform tourists and other motorcyclists about the importance of helmet safety.
The campaign’s videos feature traffic police officers, including Pol Lt Kiatwasin Sirikarn and Pol Lt Col Phasakorn Thongthung, who emphasised the strategic use of social media to maximise public engagement.
“People are always on social media,” noted Lt Sirikarn. “We wanted to present the message in a way that would capture their attention and make them aware of the dangers of not wearing a helmet.”
