Wichit police were called after Jirasak Sharkhu, 45, was found hanging by a nylon rope in his home in Mubaan Villa Suan Luang in Wichit. He had been dead for about two hours.
Police found no signs of foul play, assault or robbery.
After questioning neighbours they learned that Jirasak had previously been a sunbed-and-umbrella operator but, since being expelled from the beach three months ago in the Army-backed beach clean-up, he had been out of work.
His girlfriend had left him two months ago, and he had since spoken to no one.
At 6:10 pm the same day, Kathu police were called after another man was found hanged from the stairs in a two-storey house on Wichitsongkram Rd.
They learned that the dead man, 30-year-old Walan Khanyein, had previously crashed his motorcycle. He was left with a crippled left leg and his passenger – his best friend – was killed in the crash.
Walan had been depressed since then, neighbours said, because of being partially handicapped and because he blamed himself for the death of his friend.
