The 11th edition of the keenly-contested tournament was held at the 7 Soccer Club Stadium at the Wichit Arena and Sports Venue, running between Apr 18-28 with 24 teams battling it out for the title of champions and for a share of the B240,000 cash prizes on offer.
In addition to the winners trophy Jinnaphat FC were awarded B150,000 for their final triumph, with B50,000 going to the beaten finalist, B30,000 to the third place team and B10,000 to the team that finished fourth.
Teams came from Phuket and surrounding provinces to contest the competition in senior and junior age categories, with six teams in the under 10 age group.
Each team was limited to seven players on the field at any one time but with a rolling substitution format meaning players can swap at will throughout the games.
Thammawat Wongcharoenyos, Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Committee Member and President of the Phuket Provincial Sports Association, presided over the closing ceremony, distributing trophies and cash prizes to the relevant teams on Apr 28.
Joining Mr Thammawat were: Deputy Mayor of Phuket, Chalam Atthatham; Sumet Akrapong, Director of the SAT Phuket office; Yongyuth Unnuch, SAT Executive Committee member; and Wittaya Ketuchu, Director of Phuket Vocational College.
As part of his closing remarks Mr Thammawat praised all the teams involved for their efforts and numerous fine examples of sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition. He also reserved special praise for the fans who supported in numbers and created a vibrant atmosphere for the duration of the tournament.
Mr Thammawat further explained that in addition to developing skills among players the annual competition aims to encourage youngsters to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle by playing sports to enhance fitness levels and desuade from getting involved with drugs and any form of illegal activities.
