The incident, which occurred around 10:30am, was captured on video and widely shared on social media. The footage shows the suspect using a helmet to strike the elderly man on Thepkrasattri Rd near Mae Sompong Market in Moo 1, Srisoonthorn.
Police say the altercation stemmed from both men cutting each other off while driving, which led to the violent reaction by 45-year-old Wisan ‘Tong Kritlee’ Ketruangruang, a rental jet-ski operator originally from Chachoengsao Province.
Officers from Thalang Police Station had Wisan in custody by 2pm. He was arrested in front of a flower shop near Keha Eua Athon housing estate, not far from the scene of the incident.
Following his arrest, Wisan was taken to Thalang Police Station, where he was given an alcohol test, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 96 milligrams percent.
A urine test conducted at Thalang Hospital also returned positive for Category 1 narcotics, specifically methamphetamine.
Police have filed multiple charges against Wisan, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, using narcotics as a driver under the law on Category 1 substances and illegal use of methamphetamine.
The samlor driver involved in the incident has yet to be located, police noted.
Officers are continuing their investigation and are urging the victim or witnesses to come forward.
