Police and rescue workers were called to Mr Scarambone’s home, above his shop MC Boat Sale & Repair in Srisoonthorn, Thalang, at 7am.

Mr Scarambone’s body was still on the bed, indicating that he passed away in his sleep, noted police.

His wife, Vimon Jaipakdee, in sadness explained to police at the scene that Mr Scarambone was in poor health and received treatment at Wachira Phuket Hospital.

Ms Vimon said that her husband got up at about 1am to go to the bathroom. When she woke at 7am, he had passed away.

Mr Scarambone, a fully qualified boatbuilder, was also known for his work with local charities and for helping local government offices in Phuket, for which he had received several formal certificates and plaques of appreciation.
