Israeli Embassy warns citizens after Phuket crackdown

The warning comes after Phuket officials intensified efforts to tackle issues involving tourists and foreign residents, including traffic offences, illegal employment and visa overstays, as part of a broader campaign aimed at promoting “high-quality and sustainable tourism” on the island.

According to officials, the governor recently convened a meeting with security agencies, police, immigration officers and representatives of foreign embassies to discuss measures for controlling behaviour that causes disturbance or breaks Thai law.

During the meeting, the governor stressed that Phuket remains open to visitors from around the world, but that all tourists and foreign residents must comply with the same laws and regulations in order to maintain public order and protect local communities.

Authorities said the province is now pursuing a policy of strict law enforcement and applying maximum legal penalties against offenders.

In response, the Israeli Embassy used its official communication channels to advise Israeli nationals in Thailand to strictly obey Thai laws and regulations.

The embassy warning highlighted what it described as “zero tolerance” enforcement by Thai authorities and cautioned that offenders could face severe legal consequences.

Among the key points outlined were warnings that serious offences could lead to the immediate revocation of permission to stay in Thailand, while traffic violations such as driving without a valid licence would result in prosecution through the courts without exception.

Officials described the embassy’s action as a positive sign of cooperation between Phuket authorities and foreign diplomatic representatives in helping to educate tourists before problems occur.

Provincial officials added that the campaign is intended to reinforce the message that while Phuket welcomes international visitors, tourists are expected to respect Thai law, local culture and the rights of others.

The official report of the meeting by local government channels failed to mention any other countries offering the same warning to their citizens.
