Pol Lt Chittawan Pengkaew, Deputy Investigator at Patong Police Station, said the group filed a complaint at about 4:27am.
According to their statements to police, the six men were staying at a rented house on Soi Khuan Yang in Patong while visiting Phuket.
The tourists told investigators that at about 12:30am they invited a person they had contacted through a mobile application to their accommodation. The individual was described in the complaint as using the name ‘Thai Friendly’ on the app.
However, upon arrival, the group said they realised the visitor was a transgender woman, which led to an argument.
Police said the individual then called several friends to the house. About four additional transgender women arrived shortly afterwards.
The group allegedly demanded B40,000 from the tourists. When the victims said they did not have the money, the suspects reportedly assaulted and threatened them before searching the room.
According to the complaint, the suspects took about B30,000 from the victims before fleeing the scene.
The tourists later went to Patong Police Station to file a report and request legal action.
Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and along possible escape routes in an effort to identify the suspects.
Investigators are also questioning people who may be connected to the incident as part of efforts to locate and arrest those responsible.
