Thalang Police were notified of the death at about 3:15am yesterday (Jan 18) after receiving a report from the emergency room at Thalang Hospital, according to Pol Lt Col Thanaphop Rattanaburi, an investigator at Thalang Police Station.
The deceased was identified as a 28-year-old Indian national. A preliminary examination found no wounds or signs of physical assault, police said.
Initial investigations found that Mr Saksham had attended the EDC Thailand 2026 music festival earlier that night. After leaving the event, he reportedly became agitated and went on a rampage, damaging property in the area.
Police said a car linked to the incident was found parked outside Wat Sompharong in Cherng Talay. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and the tourist was transported by ambulance to Thalang Hospital.
Upon arrival, the tourist was found to be in a state of shock. Despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead in the hospital’s emergency room.
The attending doctor was unable to determine the cause of death, prompting police to order further medical examination. The tourist’s body has been transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause.
Pol Lt Col Thanaphop said investigators have found no immediate evidence of foul play, and the death is being treated as non-suspicious pending autopsy results.
As part of standard procedure, police have notified Phuket Immigration, the Tourist Police, and the Indian Embassy, which is coordinating with the deceased’s relatives to arrange the release of the body for religious rites.
EDC Thailand 2026, one of the largest international electronic dance music festivals ever held in Thailand, has drawn tens of thousands of local and international visitors to Phuket over the past several days.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that further details will be released once the forensic examination is complete.
The previous edition, held at the Boat Avenue Lakefront area in Cherng Talay, was also marked by the deaths of two foreign tourists ‒ a 32-year-old American and a 28-year-old Canadian.
The men died in separate incidents after reportedly collapsing and losing consciousness. Both were treated by on-site medical teams and transported to Thalang Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Cherng Talay Police did not provide any public explanation for the two deaths.
