The raid, led by Pol Lt Col Jongserm Preecha of Region 8 Police, was conducted at the construction site of a hotel in Baan Layan, in Moo 6, Cherng Talay, yesterday (Dec 26), netting 27 Chinese men and one woman.
The officers confirmed through documents and mobile phone records that the 28 Chinese nationals were working illegally.
Following previous raids on illegal construction workers in the area last week, prompting concerns that the Chinese workers were victims of human trafficking, a volunteer interpreter was provided.
However, none of the Chinese nationals arrested volunteered to explain their situation.
As the 28 arrested were not cooperating with officials, all 28 of them were taken to Cherng Talay Police Station for “further legal action”.
