Prapan Kanprasang, Chief of the Damrongdhama Centre (Ombudsman’s Office) on Friday (Mar 18) led a team of officials to investigate alleged land encroachment on Mai Khao Beach after the office received several complaints about businesses having been set up there.
The team arrived at the area, close to the Pru Jason Lake, with Navy officials and defence volunteers to find a number of temporary structures set up on public land.
“We have been told there are nine people responsible for setting up these shops. Thalang District Office and Mai Khao Administartion Office (OrBorTor) will demolish the shops within 15 days,” said Mr Prapan.
He continued, “We were also told to investigate encroachment in the cemetery area on Mai Khao Beach, and after visiting the area we discovered 15 temporary shops set up there too.
“The village chief (Phu Yai Baan) for Mai Khao Moo 4 came forward and told us that he is the owner. He said that he asked local officials if he could make use of the area and has paperwork to prove it,” he said.
“I told him that he has three days to send a letter explaining the situation to the Thalang District chief. My team will also make further investigations and if there is no proof that these businesses are legal all shops will also be demolished within 15 days.
“To get legal approval to use the land, he can send a formal request in writing to Thalang District Office and Mai Khao OrBorTor,” he added.
