Thalang Police were informed of the fire at about 9:30pm.
Srisoonthorn Municipality fire trucks supported by private water trucks arrived at the scene, at a house in the alley behind the Baan Manik Health Centre, to find the house ablaze.
Firefighters took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
No people were reported as injured by the fire.
The owner of the house, Bunma Suayson, 71, told officers that he smelled “something like smoke” and started looking for the source.
He then heard a loud sound “like firecrackers” from the front of the house, and discovered sparks falling onto the floor at the front of the home, which soon caught fire.
Mr Bunma attempted to put the fire out himself. His efforts failing, he called emergency services.
Fire investigators are continuing their investigation to confirm the cause of the fire.
The value of the damage done to the house has yet to be estimated.
