The incident, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday (Oct 20), saw the driver of a metered taxi approach and confront and another motorist, leading to concerns about road safety and etiquette.

The video was shared with the caption, "No let up! Phuket loses to the sound of horns! Hot-headed taxi driver stops in the middle of the road, gets out to threaten.”

The video showed dashcam footage taken from a car being driven normally on Chao Fa Rd when a taxi suddenly overtook it near the Tha Kraeng Intersection, on the south side of Phuket Town.

After the driver of the car honked at the taxi, the taxi driver, visibly angry, stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road, exited his car and aggressively confronted the motorist.

The motorist who honked his horn recounted the incident to reporters yesterday.

He explained that around 1am, while returning home with his girlfriend, they noticed a taxi honking persistently behind them.

When the taxi overtook and cut dangerously close in front of his car, he honked his horn to prevent a collision, the motorist said.

However, that prompted the taxi driver to stop his vehicle abruptly, exit and approach his car in an agitated manner.

"He parked his car right in front of mine, got out, and started yelling at me in a southern dialect. I was shocked and scared. My girlfriend even pulled out her phone to record, which may have been the only reason he eventually got back in his car and left," the motorist said.

While the incident did not escalate into physical violence, the motorist described feeling deeply shaken.

He decided not to file a police report, explaining, "He didn’t harm me physically, but the situation could have been worse if he hadn’t noticed the phone. I just hope drivers learn to be more courteous and respect each other on the road."
