The driver, Samran Chanputh allegedly crashed into a motorbike outside the Keehin showroom on Chalerm Prakiet Rd southbound, at 9pm, resulting in the death of one man and injury to another. (See story here)
Lt Col Chana Suthimas of Phuket City Police told The Phuket News today (Mar1), “The driver of the water truck was not at the scene when we arrived, but we were told later that night that he helped rescue workers transport the victims to hospital.
“Apparently he was in a panic, however, he turned himself in the next morning,” he said.
“He was charged with reckless driving causing death and injury,” he added.
The injured motorcyclist, 28-year-old Mr Weera Morthong, was discharged from hospital the next day.
The family of the deceased, 40-year-old Mr Cheriya Johi from India, has since taken his body home for funeral rites.
Both Mr Weera and the family of Mr Johi have been paid compensation by the vehicle insurance company.
