A team of tourist police under the command of Col Choosawat Janrojanakit arrested 35-year-old Kersew Saejang on Tuesday in front of a 7Eleven store on Wirat Hongyok Rd in Wichit at 10pm fter being alerted about a suspicion man dressed in a tourist police uniform looking for a place to rent and seeking a discount for being a policeman.
When police arrived they saw Kersew wearing a polo shirt with the tourist police logo. He was also carrying a walkie-talkie and tourist police badge.
Police seized the walkie-talkie, tourist police badge, a charger, handcuffs, three tourist police polo shirts and a metal baton.
Tourist police revealed that Kersew is not a tourist police but is in fact from a small tribe in Northern Thailand. He carries a non-Thai identification card with an address in Mae Fa Luang in Chiang Rai.
Kersew told police that all the items belonged to him and he carried them to make people believe he was a tourist police office because it makes business easier and he often get discounts to stay in hotels or rented rooms.
Kersew was charged with illegal possession of radio communication equipment and for leaving his residence for another province without a permit.
