The Phuket Highways Office announced that resurfacing works are now underway on Route 4029 over Patong Hill, between Km 0+000 and Km 1+000, from the ‘Patong City’ sign to Soi Khuan Yang.
The works are being carried out from today through next Monday (May 19-25) to repair hazardous sections on curves, increase road friction and help prevent vehicles from skidding, officials said.
Road users and residents living along the route have been warned to expect disruptions while the repairs are in progress.
The Highways Office also announced the temporary overnight closure of the Bang Khu Underpass tunnel from tonight through May 31 to allow installation of a remote control and monitoring centre aimed at improving smart city traffic management.
The tunnel will be closed each night from 8pm until 5am the following morning throughout the project period.
Officials apologised for the inconvenience caused and urged motorists to plan journeys in advance and avoid affected routes where possible.
The Phuket Highways Office also called on the public to help improve road safety by reporting damaged road surfaces, potholes, broken streetlights, faulty traffic signals, damaged traffic signs or fallen trees along highway routes.
Reports can be made during office hours by calling 076-212179 or through the Department of Highways hotline 1586, available 24 hours a day.
