Pol Lt Theppitak Puangmanee of the Wichit Police was informed of the fire, at a one-story townhouse at the Phuket Villa 3 housing estate, at 12:50pm.
Firefighters from Wichit Municipality rushed to the scene, with rescue workers and Wichit Police Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Rachan Phanwai all arriving as well.
The fire was still burning in the kitchen behind the house, with a a lot of smoke billowing towards neighbouring houses.
Firefighters took more than 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The owner of the house explained that he was boiling a herbal medicine containing Vaseline oil on a gas stove in the kitchen behind the house when the concoction caught fire.
He tried to douse the flames with a soaked cloth, but to no avail. The flames spread and the fire grew, and he called emergency services.
Despite the homeowner’s explanation of how the fire started, officers noted that they were continuing their investigation in order to confirm the cause of the fire.
