The drowning incident occurred on March 27 when three-year-old Vasilisa Sagunova fell into the deep end of a hotel swimming pool without her parents realising.
It was several minutes before anybody realised that the child was in the pool.
After being dragged from the pool, Miss Sagunova was rushed to a local hospital where they managed to resuscitate her. However, her condition was so severe she was transported to a hospital in Bangkok where she is still in a coma.
Doctors have recommended that Miss Sagunova spend a few more days in hospital in Bangkok before being transported back to Russia on a special board medavac flight.
It is standard practice for Russian emergency agencies to evacuate Russian nationals in cases like this and all the costs are covered by the state.
However, although Miss Sagunova is insured, the cost of her treatment has now exceeded that covered by insurance.
Her treatment and stay in hospital costs between 100-150 thousand baht a day. The family have requested financial assistance from the Russian embassy, but as of now there has been no confirmation that Russian authorities will assist with the hospital bills.
Therefore, Miss Sagunova’s parents are asking for urgent donations to help with the hospital bills.
Should anyone wish to make a donation, they can do so via Bangkok Bank, Account no. 955-004091-0, Account name: OLGA RATUSHNAYA.
