Commonly known as the Fourth of July or July Fourth, it is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from Great Britain.

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, food and traditions of the United States of America.

There are many fabulous parties this weekend in honor of this year’s Fourth of July. Be sure to check out the biggest Independence Day party which is happening at Friendship Beach Waterfront Restaurant in the southern part of Rawai.

For B790 (B395 for kids under 12), enjoy a welcome drink, traditional BBQ buffet dinner with ribs, salmon, hot dogs, southern fried chicken, burgers, salads, desserts and much more. DJ Bobby will be playing all night until the fireworks display in the evening. For bookings call 089 728 5304.

A few words from one of the island’s own...
Brad Kenny - US Expat now resided in Thailand for 25 years and in Phuket for the last 16 years.

What does the day mean to you?

The American Independence day on July 4th means family and friends, BBQ, beer, and of course fireworks!

How will you be celebrating?

I’ll spend the 4th of July in Khao Lak, Phang Nga Province with my son and 40 other Americans from Salt Lake City that flew to Thailand to help the Rotary Club of Patong Beach with a Community Service Project at a Burmese Migrant Workers School making the lives of a couple hundred children better.

Then that evening we will relax and have a BBQ on the beach with fireworks! What could be better?
