The suspect, Prakit Pannarai, was apprehended at about 4:30pm yesterday (Apr 7) while hiding at a hotel in Phuket Town, police confirmed.

The arrest follows a shooting that took place just before 5:20pm on Monday (Apr 6).

The victim, Wirat Navadech, 40, a salesperson at the store, was shot twice – once in the torso and once in the thigh – and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to Mission Hospital Phuket, where he remains under medical care.

Police said CCTV footage from the scene showed Pakrit chasing Mr Wirat inside the warehouse before opening fire. The footage also captured the victim fleeing the scene before seeking help.

Following the attack, the suspect fled the area. CCTV review later revealed that a red sedan picked him up at the entrance to Soi Mali Kaew in Ratsada, while his motorcycle was left parked nearby.

An arrest warrant was subsequently issued, prompting officers from Phuket City Police and the Phuket Provincial Police Investigation Division to launch a search operation.

Police tracked the suspect to a hotel on Kra Rd in Talat Yai, Phuket Town, where officers moved in and surrounded the building before making the arrest without incident.

During questioning, Prakit confessed to the shooting, police said. He told officers the attack was motivated by a series of prior disputes with the victim, which had escalated over time.

On the day of the incident, he claimed he could no longer tolerate the situation and acted in a fit of rage.

Police have not yet confirmed the charges to be filed against the suspect, but said legal proceedings are underway.

Investigators continue to gather evidence as part of the case, while the victim remains in hospital recovering from his injuries.
