Patong Police Station reported that traffic entering Patong was moving slowly after the guardrail on the eastbound side near the Sea Pearl Hotel, heading towards Kathu, was removed, leaving only one lane open and causing a backlog of vehicles.
Officers from Patong Police Station were deployed to the area to manage traffic and assist motorists. Police urged drivers to exercise caution and, where possible, avoid the route.
Pol Lt Col Chamnan Thrapshin of the Patong Police Traffic Division said the guardrail upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
“The work will be carried out every day between 9am and 4pm,” he said. “We are changing the guardrails on both sides of the road, upgrading from one level to two levels. At the moment, we are working on one side at a time to allow traffic to continue flowing.”
However, Pol Lt Col Chamnan advised motorists to avoid the road over Patong Hill during work hours if possible, as traffic delays are expected while the old guardrail is removed and the new guardrail installed.
