Kamala Police were informed of the fire, in Moo 1, Kamala, at about 7:30pm.
Police and firefighters arrived to find the car ablaze. The lot had already been razed by the fire.
Firefighters took some 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. The car, a Honda Civic registered in Betong, Yala Province, had already been gutted by the flames.
Police learned that grass on the lot, which has a boundary wall along three sides, had been cut, and the grass cuttings had been set alight.
Strong winds had fuelled the flames, and spread the fire to the car, parked on the street side of the lot.
The owner of the car told police that he had parked the said car since morning. He had heard the shouts of fire by local residents, but paid no attention until he heard that a car beside the lot had also caught fire.
Police said they were continuing their investigation.
