Governor to present Phuket projects to mobile Cabinet meeting

PHUKET: Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat is to present a raft of new infrastructure projects for Phuket costing more than B191 million to the mobile Cabinet meeting to be held in Ranong on Jan 22-23.

The new projects to be presented were confirmed at a meeting of local government office chiefs and representatives from the private sector held at Phuket Provincial Hall on Friday (Jan 5).

Governor Sophon noted that seven projects were to be presented to Cabinet for approval as follows:

1) Rehabilitation of the solid waste landfill at the Phuket Provincial Solid Waste Disposal Center at Saphan Hin under a budget of B40 million

2) Construction of a reinforced concrete dam along Bang Yai Canal at Satree Phuket School under a project by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) with a budget of B26.5mn

3) The expansion of the water supply mains network along the Na Ko-Bang Jo Road in Srisoonthorn, Thalang, under a budget of B10.81mn

4) A project to improve the drainage network along Bangla Rd in Patong under a budget of B1.982mn

5) A ‘Smart Pole’ project for tourism by the Upper Southern Branch of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), of which the PPAO will be assigned as the host of the project, with a budget of B30.5mn

6) A project to develop the Phuket City information management system to ‘improve the quality of life of the people’ carried out by the, Upper Southern Thailand Regional Branch of the 

Office of the National Economic and Social Council (Nesdc) with a very specific budget of B36,979,600

7) A ‘digital wallet’ project by Patong Municipality under a budget of B45mn

In total, the seven projects require budgets amounting to B191.7716mn.

Governor Sophon noted that the projects were to help develop and solve economic problems in Phuket.
