Governor Sophon and Mr Udomphon visited the main checkpoints operated by Wichit Police Station, Chalong Police Station, Karon Police Station, Phuket City Police Station, Patong Police Station and Kathu Police Station.
The emphasis of the visits was on working with caution for the safety of workers and the public, said an official report of the tour.
Every checkpoint has integrated forces including police officers, local government departments and public health officials, the report said.
“I would like to emphasise to officials in all departments to work with caution for the safety of workers, citizens and tourists,” Governor Sophon said.
“This is because there are more people and tourists using the road than usual. If violations and non-compliance with traffic regulations and discipline are found, detection will be carried out. and strictly proceed according to the legal process,” he added.
Traffic in Phuket during the mornings so far has been smooth, but has increased heavily late into the afternoons while people travel to various areas to enjoy the holidays, the report noted.
The road over Patong Hill and from Rawai to Promthep Cape have been particularly busy.
Motorists are urged to consider traffic delays if they intend to use main roads to popular areas during the peak pre-sunset period.
