Deputy government spokeswoman Airin Phanrit said Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed the Department of Provincial Administration to strengthen gun control measures to heighten public safety.
Major directives cover purchase permits (Por 3), ownership permits (Por 4) and carry permits (Por 12), reports the Bangkok Post.
For purchase permits, registrars must rigorously vet applicants, checking for disqualifications under the Firearms Act and investigating their personal conduct, associates, and any links to illegal activity.
For ownership permits, registrars and local officials must monitor licence holders through community networks to ensure they remain qualified.
As for carry permits, suspension of such permits, in place since Dec 20, 2023, remains in effect.
No permits may be issued to the general public to reduce the risks of violent crimes.
