The suspect, identified as Ryan Leo Akam, was taken into custody by officers from Chalong Police Station following two incidents reported on Friday evening (Apr 4).
The first incident occurred at approximately 5:35pm in front of a 7-Eleven store at the entrance to Soi Songkhun in Chalong.
According to a store employee, the suspect attacked a Thai man and made off with his white Honda Click 110i motorcycle, bearing the registration number 1 KorLor 5867 Phuket.
The suspect was seen riding along Chao Fa West Rd, heading towards Chalong Circle, report police.
Shortly after, officers received a second report of a theft at a mobile phone shop inside the Robinson Lifestyle shopping mall in Chalong.
A high-end iPhone 16 Pro Max in Desert Titanium colour, with IMEI number 35 355824 968812 8, was reported stolen. Surveillance footage and witness accounts confirmed that the same suspect was involved in both incidents, police confirmed.
Officers were able to track the suspect using CCTV footage, which showed him entering an alley known for trading second-hand goods in Moo 1, Chalong. He was later apprehended and taken in for questioning.
Akam has since been handed over to investigators for legal proceedings. Police have not yet confirmed what charges will be filed but said the investigation was ongoing.
