German man dies after collapse in Rawai

PHUKET: A 37-year-old German man died after reportedly collapsing and hitting his head on a bathroom wall while taking a shower at his home in Rawai on Sunday (June 28), police said.

Officers from Chalong Police were notified at about 3pm that a foreign national had died in the Emergency Room at Chalong Hospital.

Police arrived at the hospital and identified the deceased a 37-year-old German national*, Chalong Police reported.

According to police, the man had suffered a head injury believed to have been caused when he struck the wall of the bathroom at his home in Soi Samakki 2, Saiyuan Rd in Rawai.

The manl’s girlfriend, Chompoonuch Chanhom, told police that he had entered the bathroom to take a shower at about noon. While he was showering, she heard a loud noise from the bathroom and found that he had apparently collapsed and fallen, hitting his head against the bathroom wall.

She then called an ambulance, which transported him to Chalong Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police and a doctor at Chalong Hospital conducted a preliminary examination of the body and have an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

The body has been sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full post-mortem examination. 

Police will also notify the German Embassy and immigration authorities in accordance with standard procedures.
