Officers were called to the scene, a shanty worker’s abode on Soi Thep Anusorn 4, in Moo 2, Wichit, at 11:15pm.
Police and rescue workers arrived to find the body of Bunkhamphan ‘Pan’ Bunchu, 48, from Sisaket, In front of the shack.
He suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck, and another stab wound to the left shoulder.
Police estimated that Mr Bunkhamphan had died at least eight hours earlier.
Officers also found a fruit knife with blood stains on a chair in front of the house.
A former gardening worker named by police as Mr Mon (not his real name) told officers that he saw Mr Bunkhamphan sitting and drinking alcohol together with fellow gardener Issara Khunphochai, 55, at about 5pm.
Mr Mon came back at about 8:20pm and found Mr Bunkhamphan dead on the ground. Issara was nowhere to be found.
Instead of calling the police directly, Mr Mon rushed off on his motorbike to find “the owner” and finally had him notify the police to investigate, police reported.
Mr Mon said that Mr Issara (the suspect) had been working as a gardening worker for little over a year. Mr Bunkhamphan had been working as a gardener for only four months.
The two were often seen arguing while working together, and arguments would continue while they sat and drank together, he said.
Police are trying to track down Issara. CCTV footage confirmed that he fled the area on a bicycle, police noted.
