Patong Police received a report at 4:54pm on Wednesday of a fire at LPK Hotel & Restaurant in Soi Bangla, Patong.
Patrol officers, investigators and the duty investigating officer were dispatched to the scene, where they found the building, which is currently undergoing renovations, filled with smoke following the blaze.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control before it spread further. No injuries were reported.
Police said damage was minor and was largely confined to the building’s electrical system.
Witnesses told officers that strong winds and rain had affected the area shortly before the incident. They reported hearing an explosion from a fuse box inside the building before smoke began filling the premises and a fire subsequently broke out.
Investigators have yet to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
The Phuket Forensic Science Division has been notified and will conduct a detailed examination of the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident was reported by Patong Police under the supervision of Patong Police Superintendent Col Korakrit Khanthakrue.
