Staff from the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation Coordinator and JW Marriott visited the PMBC at Phuket’s Cape Panwa to make the donation. The funds will be used to support the Injured Sea Turtle Rescue Project and the Sea Turtle Nursery.
JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa and the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation raised funds and awareness of the protected sea turtles and the preservation of the Mai Khao area which facing multiple threats, the sea turtles’ numbers have severely depleted in recent years. Commercial fishing kills thousands of them every year, while many more die from eating or becoming trapped in plastic debris littering the ocean.
The Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation’s efforts have included a beach and reef clean up, fundraising mini marathon, an educational project for Mai Khao students and releasing turtles back into the Andaman Sea.
The 4th Mai Khao Turtle Release marked the 11th anniversary of the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation. The B100,000 donated by the foundation included funds raised at this event, along with donations by guests at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club, Marriott’s Mai Khao Beach, Anantara Phuket Villas and Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa.
