Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas delivered a speech as part of the opening ceremony of the event that took place at Saphan Hin park entitled “Cyber Vaccinated Run 2023”.
“There are approximately 800 cases of online crime detected by the RTP nationally everyday,” Pol Gen Damrongsak said.
“The most common offences involve frauduent goods or services being offered, closely followed by attempts to trick people into investing or lending money. Such attempts are often coupled with call centre scams that attempt to intimidate the victim,” he added.
“Anyone that has fallen victim to such a scam should report the case to their local police department immediately so as further investigation and action can be taken. However, to truly tackle the situation we need to make people more aware of such fraudsters so they can no longer operate,” Pol Gen Damrongsak explained.
“Do not believe everything you hear, take your time and check for credibility and do not transfer anything electronically or otherwise unless you are completely sure it is legal. This deterrent approach is what we term as a ‘cyber vaccine’ where we build a communal immunity to such criminals,” he added.
Yesterday’s run was split into three separate categories: an 11-kilometre run, a 5km run and a 3km run.
There was no entry fee for the event although in order to qualify competitors had to sit a RTP “Cyber Vaccine Test” questionnaire with a pass rate of 35 correct answers from the total 40 questions required for race eligibility.
Organisers said that of the 1,744 people who took the test 1,735 people qualified and therefore participated.
