The suspect, named by the CIB as Thanya ‘Bom’ Wichaidit, 32, was placed under arrest at a shopping centre in Wichit yesterday (Mar 24), the CIB reported.
The report did not specify at which shopping centre Thanya was taken into custody.
Thanya was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by Surat Thani Provincial Court on Saturday (Mar 23), the CIB noted.
He had fled while on bail. He is accused of working together with Niwat Saksomphong, with Thanya the alleged hired gunman who had shot and killed Ja Ying, a former casino boss in Surat Thani in 2022, the CIB report said.
Thanya also became wanted for the shooting death of a young woman who was shot dead in the middle of the road near Don Sak Police Station on Friday night. Police believe that murder was the result of a conflict over drugs.
When being placed under arrest in Phuket, Thanya denied the charges against him, the CIB report noted.
Regardless, Thanya was taken to be handed over to investigating officers at Don Sak Police Station in Surat Thani “to proceed according to the law”, the report concluded.
