The arrest was carried out yesterday (July 2) by officers from the Special Operations Division of the Investigation Bureau Region 8, working together with the Special Operations Division of the Immigration Bureau and Phuket Immigration Office.
Police identified the suspect as Chirrane Yanis, 29, a French national who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of the authorities of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
According to police, Yanis is wanted on charges including membership of an organised crime group, money laundering of assets or benefits obtained from criminal activity, kidnapping, unlawful detention, hostage-taking, armed robbery committed by two or more offenders, extortion and blackmail.
Officers tracked Yanis to Phuvaree Resort in Patong, where he was arrested in front of his room.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Investigation Bureau Region 8 Commander Pol Maj Gen Lertchai Champathong and senior officers from Investigation Bureau Region 8, with support from Phuket Immigration.
Following his arrest, Yanis was taken to Phuket Immigration Office to begin deportation proceedings for his return to Luxembourg, where he is wanted to face the charges, police said.
