The vessel, identified as ‘Supaporn 5’, was transporting goods from Bang Rong Pier in Pa Khlok to Koh Yao in Phang Nga when it encountered large waves and capsized in waters between Koh Naka and Koh Yao, near the Phuket-Phang Nga provincial boundary.
Thalang Police received a report of the incident at about 4:30pm, according to a report filed by Thalang Police Superintendent Pol Col Nikorn Chuthong.
Police said the vessel had departed Bang Rong Pier carrying one captain and three crew members, for a total of four people on board.
While en route to Koh Yao, the vessel was struck by rough seas and sank.
Fortunately, all four people aboard were rescued by passing jet-ski operators and tourist boats that came to their assistance.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, and all four crew members were confirmed safe.
Recovery efforts for the sunken vessel are now underway, police said.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the extent of damage to the boat or the value of the cargo lost.
