Rescue workers were notified by Kamala resident Anake Srisit, 40, that he had found a big king cobra in his house at Soi Namtok Bangwan at 2:30pm. Another second king cobra had also been found outside the house.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a king cobra inside the house. It took more than three hours to catch the king cobra with a snake snare and put it into a bag. The king cobra measured four metres long and weighed 7.2kg.

Then rescue workers moved to an area 80 away from the house where another king cobra had been found behind a worker’s camp.

The king cobra was hiding behind a big rock and rescue workers waited for it to come out from hiding but somehow the snake managed to get away.

One of the rescue workers said, “The king cobra which was hiding behind the rock was bigger than the first one. Local residents were afraid that this might be the mating season for snakes. If one king cobra was caught, another king cobra might be searching for it.

“We believe that these two king cobras might be living inside a forest nearby. When the temperature is increased and the weather is dry they came out to search for water and food. The king cobra that we caught will be released back into nature,” the rescue worker said.
