Takua Thung Police were notified of an accident on the main inter-provincial Highway 4 (Phet Kasem Rd) in Kalai subdistrict at around 2.30pm yesterday (Oct 13).

Having arrived at the scene near Wat Si Rattanaram School, police officers and rescue worker found two damaged trucks and severely wrecked Nissan Almera sedan with Songkhla license plates. Inside the sedan, four individuals were found trapped.

After extracting the victims from the vehicle, rescue workers confirmed their demise and transported the bodies to Phang Nga Hospital for further examination and autopsy.

The deceased were identified as follows:

  • Mr Phumiphat Woonceiw, 29 years old, from Songkhla province, the driver.
  • Ms Piyaporn Madsaku, 29 years old, from Nakhon Si Thammarat province, a passenger.
  • Ms Juriporn Saranan, 27 years old, from Phatthalung province, a passenger.
  • Ms Jinnapat Suthat Na Ayutthaya, 26 years old, from Songkhla province, a passenger.

Both truck drivers were at the scene and prepared to provide statements regarding the accident. One trucker was a resident of Phuket, while the other was from Samut Prakan.

Preliminary findings indicate that Mr Phumiphat was driving westbound towards Phuket to spend the long weekend on the island. While passing Wat Si Rattanaram School, he failed to navigate a curve, causing his vehicle to cross the median line and collide with two eastbound trucks.

Truck drivers, Sayant Mathawathi and Phongsa Chaithom, were subjected to alcohol tests at Takua Thung Police Station, with results returning negative.

Additionally, Takua Thung Police officers requested alcohol tests for Mr Phumiphat at Phang Nga Hospital, but the results have not yet been disclosed at the time of publication.
