Phuket Tourist Police reported yesterday (Dec 10) that they had received a complaint that a group of foreigners has set up camp on the beach, complete with a tent to sleep in.
Phuket Tourist Police, joined by officers from Patong Police Station and local municipal officials, arrived to explain to the foreigners that their living arrangement was unacceptable.
“The group of tourists has been informed to find a new place to stay,” a brief post online by the Phuket Tourist Police said.
The foreigners pitching their tent on the beach came over the same weekend that thousands of people had turned up to enjoy the Phuket Carnival in Patong, which began on Friday and featured nightly live concerts and electronic dance music (EDM) performances by well-known DJs.
Ratchadaphon O-in, head of the Phuket office of the Ministry Tourism & Sports, has revealed that on average a total of 40,000 to 50,000 domestic and international passengers have passed through Phuket International Airport each day since the long weekend (Dec 9-11) began.
Many of the tourists had come for the carnival, but also to enjoy Phuket Town, she said.
