Foreigner arrested for 1,577 days’ overstay

PHUKET: Immigration officers have confirmed the arrest of a foreigner who had stayed illegally in the country for more than four years.

The foreigner, a woman, was placed under arrest at the international departures hall at Phuket International Airport at about 6:35pm on Sunday (Sept 17), reported the ‘Phuket Immigration Checkpoint’ yesterday.

The woman’s name and nationality were not disclosed in the report.

The woman was placed under arrest by officers led by Immigration Inspector Pol Lt Col Akkhaphon Kaewkiat, joined by officers from Crime Suppression Investigation Division (ChoPor 1).

The arrest was made under the direction of Phuket Immigration Checkpoint Superintendent Pol Col Naruewat Phutthawiro and Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Sabha Chitlang, noted the report.

The woman was found to have stayed in the country illegally for a total of 1,577 days.

No further details of the woman’s arrest, or any reason given for the length of illegal saty in the country, were explained.

The woman was taken to Sakhu Police Station to be charged for illegally entering and staying in the country, the report confirmed.
