The footage, shared by Facebook user “Pat Pkt” in the group ‘Urgent, Join Together to Help Phuket v.2’, captured the incident, which took place in front of the ’JB Green Patong, JB Cafe’ and Abood Barber shop on Soi Saensabai.
The 52-second clip shows two foreign tourists being assaulted by the group, though the reason behind the altercation remains unclear.
The video was posted with the caption: “#BANGLA PHUKET Fresh and hot 03.18 #Don’t know what happened, I only recorded this much.”
One of the foreign men is seen falling to the ground while he tries to leave the scene. He is kicked repeatedly while he is on the ground.
His two attackers then pick him up, and another local man restrains the him while the original attacker, after punching him in the head, repeatedly knees the foreign man in the stomach until he collapses.
The second foreign man tries to intervene, but a local man in a black shirt prevents him, with a punch to the head. Yet another local man enters the fray and hits the second foreign man in the head with an object in his hand.
The video quickly gained attention, with several netizens commenting on the incident. Reactions ranged from support for the attackers to calls for more information.
Some comments included, “This is great, Luang,” and “Sassy Arab,” while others urged viewers to wait for more details, especially a woman heard in the background claiming to have been involved in a altercation inside a nearby shop.
Patong Police have yet to provide any official statement or even publicly recognise the incident.
