Police and rescue workers were alerted to the accident on Patong-Kamala road at about 1pm on Wednesday (Sept 13). Upon arrival at the scene, police officers and first responders found a damaged scooter lying on the road and a damaged car parked nearby. The motorcycle had significant damage to its front, while the car’s rear window was broken, and there was a substantial bump in the trunk area.
According to Novosti Phuketa, The Phuket News’ sister-newspaper in Russian language, one person was injured as the result of the accident – a foreign male was injured who was operating the scooter at the time of the collision. The website did not report the man’s name, age, or nationality.
The foreigner was provided first aid at the scene and taken to Patong Hospital for further treatment. The rider claimed "faulty brakes" as the cause of the accident, according to Novosti Phuketa.
First responders from Rescue Team Volunteers Phuket were among the emergency workers providing assistance to the victim. According to the team’s Facebook report, the man sustained injuries to his head and body but remained conscious and able to communicate.
"Helmets save lives. The rider was wearing a helmet, which likely saved his life. The rider didn’t recall if it was his head that went through the back window, but based on the evidence, it appears so. The helmet looks untouched but it did its job. He [the injured] received stitches to the face, chin, and leg, along with normal scrapes and skin loss associated with this type of accident," reported Rescue Team Volunteers Phuket.
