Foreign man drowns at Nai Yang Beach

PHUKET: Police are working to identify a foreign man who drowned off Nai Yang Beach yesterday (Sept 30) after being found washed ashore with no identification or personal belongings.

Sakhu Police was alerted at 11:19am that a man had been discovered unconscious on the beach, Thalang Police reported .

Rescue workers from Nai Yang arrived shortly after and rushed the victim to Thalang Hospital, where doctors attempted CPR. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 12:25pm.

The man is described as a white, middle-aged foreigner wearing only swimming trunks. There were no signs of assault or injuries, and no documents or belongings were found with him.

Police said initial checks around Nai Yang Beach revealed no witnesses who knew the man or had seen him swimming. It remains unclear where he was staying or whether he had been with anyone at the time of the incident.

Investigators, together with doctors at Thalang Hospital, have performed an initial medical examination, with the body transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a more detailed examination to confirm the cause of death.

Thalang Police Chief Pol Col Nikorn Chuthong confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the deceased and to contact his embassy once his nationality is established. Anyone with information is urged to contact Thalang Police.
