In Phang Nga municipality, flood conditions gradually improved after relentless heavy rainfall on Wednesday unleashed runoff from nearby hills, inundating roads and residential areas across the town, reports the Bangkok Post.

More than 300 households were affected by the flooding, which residents described as the most severe in at least 20 years.

With rain easing, water levels dropped rapidly and most flooded areas returned to normal. However, many residents remained reluctant to move back into their homes, fearing another round of heavy rain.

Saowalak, 56, a resident of Traiboon Uthit Soi, said floodwaters surged into her neighbourhood so quickly that residents had little time to react.

She blamed ongoing drainage canal construction projects for worsening the flooding.

In Krabi, flash floods struck low-lying communities in Krabi municipality around 3am yesterday after runoff from the Phanom Bencha mountain range surged into waterways and overflowed into residential areas.

More than 200 households in the Ruamjaichon community were inundated, with water levels reaching one metre in some locations.

Temporary shelters have been established at Municipal School No 1 and Ban Talad Kao Mosque.
