Traffic backed up for hours on Thepkassattri Rd northbound in Thalang from 6am today (May 14) after heavy rains there caused minor flooding near the Thai Watsadu centre.

Residents in the Moo Baan Usookjaroen area of Thepkrasattri subdistrict reported floodwaters of up to 50 centimetres after an hour of incessant rain. Thalang Police officers were dispatched to the area to help direct traffic.

Some motorbikes were left stranded in the middle of the road while other vehicles were able to move along the road very slowly.

The floodwater slowly dissipated into the drains and at last report traffic was moving through the area again.

According to weekly weather forecast from Thai Meteorological Department, Phuket this week will see more hot weather with scattered to fairly widespread rain throughout the week with heavy rainfall in some areas.

Last Friday (May 6), rainfall of 37.6mm fell quickly at Phuket International Airport, which took officials hours to clear the floodwater from the road front of the passenger terminal. (See story here.)
