Police were called to the scene, just south of the Khuan Yak Curve on the road from Kamala to Patong, at 4:45am.
Officers and rescue workers arrived to find an overturned Isuzu pickup truck with significant damage. Its driver, 52-year-old Issarayot Wichaidit, had sustained injuries. Nearby, a Suzuki tuk-tuk, also overturned and damaged, was lying on its side.
The tuk-tuk driver, Pracha Anluen, 45, and his three passengers ‒ Thai women Chutima Champasri, 38, and Marisa Pudchin, 32, along with Russian national Arthur Nabillin, 40 ‒ were injured.
Emergency responders from Kamala Rescue and the Kusoldharm Foundation transported all injured parties to Patong Hospital for treatment.
According to initial police investigations, the Isuzu pickup was traveling from Kamala toward Patong when its brakes failed on the steep, curving road.
Unable to stop, the truck crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the tuk-tuk, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
Police recorded statements from both drivers, who corroborated the sequence of events. Officers have documented the incident and are pursuing further investigations to determine liability and proceed with legal action.
