Pol Maj Sakol Krainara, shift officer at Muang Police Station when then call came in, said five fire engines were sent to fight the blaze.
They found smoke pouring out of the 22-metre Citra Maju 86, moored to the pier.
Firemen poured water into the vessel, unable to board it because of the constant sound of explosions on board. After about 30 minutes the smoke began to abate and the fire was brought under control and extinguished.
The vessel’s engineer said he had started the engine as part of regular checks, and it had burst into flames. No one was hurt in the blaze, which caused an estimated B1 million in damage to the boat.
