Phuket City Police were notified at 4.15pm of the suspected death of a man who had locked himself inside one of the factory's toilet for a period of time.

A team of rescue workers and officers, led by Pol Major Ms Pornthip Chumsri arrived to the scene, a fish meal factory in Rassada's Moo 7 locale, where they found the body of the victim, identified as Mr Pranom Gumlungsin, sitting down on a squat toilet, with his legs wide open, head down and a rope wrapped around his neck and tied to a beam overhead.

In his pockets, officers found a B1,000 bill and did not note any signs of foul play.

After getting in touch with the man's relatives in Chiang Rai, police learned that Mr Pranom was a fisherman who had suffered from "health issues".

Pol Maj Pornthip said the victim is thought to have been dead for about 2 hours prior to being discovered.

Nonetheless, the body has been taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination.
