Pol Lt Col Wattanathon Bamrungthin, an investigating officer at Kathu Police Station, received a report of the fire at about 6:40am.
The fire broke out at room number 14 in a single-storey rental row house in Soi Sao Roman, off Phra Baramee Rd in Moo 6, Kathu.
At the scene, 45-year-old tenant Kochakorn Sirikul told police that the electricity in the rental building had gone out at about 3:30am.
Ms Kochakorn said that while the power outage was continuing, she left her room at about 5:38am to buy items from a 7-Eleven convenience store at the PTT petrol station on the downhill side of Patong, about 260 metres away.
When she returned at about 6:20am, firefighters were already working to extinguish the blaze in her room.
Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby rooms. However, Ms Kochakorn’s room sustained damage.
No injuries were reported.
Police said the extent of the property damage is still being assessed, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Investigating officers have coordinated with forensic police to examine the scene and determine the cause of the blaze.
