Fire breaks out at Kathu rented room

PHUKET: A fire broke out in a rented room in Kathu early this morning (Apr 24), damaging electrical appliances and personal belongings while the occupant was away making merit.

Police were notified of the incident at 7:10am, with the fire reported at a rented room building located at 48/36, Room A2, Moo 6, Kathu.

The occupant, Wacharin Damsai, told police he had been out making merit when he received a call from a neighbour informing him that his room was on fire.

Upon returning to inspect the scene, Mr Wacharin found that several items had been damaged or destroyed by the blaze, including a refrigerator, air conditioner, clothing, bedding and amulets.

No injuries were reported.

Police have yet to identify the cause of the fire and no suspects have been named.

Kathu Police Chief Col Chalermchai Hoersawat has assigned Pol Lt Col Akrapol Siwilai to lead the investigation.
